Dear Miramonte Families,
As we continue into our final trimester of the school year, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued partnership and support. This is an exciting and important time at Miramonte, as we work together to finish the year strong—both academically and socially.
At Miramonte, we remain committed to our mission of preparing every student for college, career, and life. Throughout this year, we have focused on strong instruction in reading and math, building positive relationships through Capturing Kids’ Hearts, and reinforcing our PBIS expectations of being Successful, Thoughtful, Accountable, Respectful, and Safe. We are proud of the growth our students have shown and the positive culture we continue to build together.
The final trimester is a critical time for learning. Students will be applying the skills they have developed all year, and we encourage all families to continue supporting strong habits at home. This includes:
- Ensuring your child attends school every day and arrives on time
- Encouraging reading at home daily
- Staying connected with your child’s teacher through ParentSquare
Strong school-to-home communication is key to student success, and platforms like ParentSquare help us keep families informed and engaged through messages, updates, and important announcements. Tools like this make it easier for schools and families to stay connected and support student achievement together.
As we move forward, we are also looking ahead to important events, celebrations, and opportunities to recognize our students for their hard work. From end-of-year activities to academic milestones, we are excited to celebrate all that our students have accomplished.
Thank you again for being an essential part of the Miramonte community. Together, we will continue to support our students in reaching their full potential. Let’s finish strong, Mustangs!
With appreciation,
Dr. Shane Muetzel
Principal, Miramonte Elementary School

We had an incredible evening of learning and fun at our Math/Science STEM Night on Thursday, April 24! Students and families rotated through a variety of exciting, hands-on stations that brought math, science, engineering, and chemistry to life. From experimenting with reactions and building creative structures to solving engaging math challenges, every station offered something interactive and memorable for all ages.
The room was filled with energy as students explored, asked questions, and worked side-by-side with their families. You could hear the excitement in their voices as they tested ideas, made discoveries, and celebrated those “aha” moments together. It was more than just an event—it was a night of curiosity, creativity, and connection.
We are so proud of our students for their enthusiasm and love of learning, and we are grateful to our families for joining us and making the night so special. Events like STEM Night truly highlight the power of learning together as a community at Miramonte!

Our recent Career Day for our 4th–6th grade students was an extremely successful and engaging experience for everyone involved! The event took place on Thursday, April 23rd and ran smoothly from start to finish, thanks to the careful planning and support of our staff and presenters.
Students participated in four fast-paced sessions, rotating through classrooms to hear from a variety of presenters representing different careers. Each 15-minute session gave students the opportunity to learn about different professions. We had Behavioral Therapists, Cosmotologists, Law Enforcement Officers, College Representatives, and the students' favorite In-N-Out. The students were able to ask questions and begin thinking about their own future goals.
What made the day especially impactful was the level of student engagement. With guiding questions in hand, students were actively listening, participating, and making connections between what they are learning in school and real-world careers. This experience directly supports our school’s commitment to college and career readiness.
We are incredibly grateful to our presenters, teachers, and planning committee for making this event such a success. Career Day truly brought learning to life for our students and inspired them to begin thinking about their future possibilities.
At Miramonte, we are proud to provide opportunities like this that help our students see that their college and career journey starts now!

We are excited to share the continued progress of AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) at our school! AVID is a college and career readiness program that helps students build the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond, with a focus on organization, critical thinking, collaboration, and goal setting.
This year, we have been working hard to strengthen AVID strategies across all grade levels. A key part of this work is implementing WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) strategies in our classrooms. Through these strategies, students are learning how to take effective notes, ask thoughtful questions, work productively with peers, stay organized, and clearly present their thinking.
In classrooms, students are engaging in meaningful discussions, practicing structured note-taking, setting academic goals, and building confidence as learners. Our teachers are also collaborating and participating in ongoing professional development to ensure AVID strategies are implemented schoolwide.
We are proud of the growth we’ve seen so far and are excited about the journey ahead. Families can support this work by encouraging organization at home, asking students about their goals, and reinforcing the importance of perseverance and hard work. Thank you for being our partners as we continue to build a college-going culture for all students!

Writing is an important skill that grows with practice, and there are many fun, simple ways to support your child at home! Try writing stories together and taking turns adding ideas. Provide your child with a journal or notebook where they can write freely and express their creativity.
Make writing even more engaging by offering markers, crayons, or special art supplies so they can illustrate their stories. You can also leave notes in your child’s lunchbox or around the house to encourage reading and writing in meaningful ways. Playing word games like Scrabble is another great way to build vocabulary and spelling skills.
Most importantly, encourage your child to write with a purpose—such as creating a letter to a friend or family member. With a little encouragement, writing can become a fun and meaningful part of your child’s daily routine!

Our third and final RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) distribution of the school year will take place in late May/early June, and we are excited to celebrate it with our theme, “Racing to Read.” This final distribution is a great opportunity to continue building excitement around reading as we head into the summer months. Developing strong reading habits throughout the year is essential to student success, and we want to encourage all students to keep that momentum going. Our school library remains open after school for book checkout, including for students participating in after-school programs, providing continued access to engaging books and materials. As the school year comes to a close, we also encourage families to take advantage of the South El Monte Library at 1430 North, Central Ave, South El Monte (an LA County Public Library), which offers a wide selection of books and hosts summer reading programs with fun incentives and activities to keep students motivated. Together, these opportunities help ensure that reading remains an enjoyable and consistent part of every student’s learning journey.
|
Our students will soon be participating in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) from May 5 through May 22. This is an important opportunity for students to demonstrate the learning and growth they have made throughout the year.
At Miramonte, we encourage all students to take pride in their work and try their very best on the assessment. CAASPP results help us understand student progress and guide how we continue to support learning at our school.
You can support your child’s success during testing by focusing on a few key habits:
-
Be on time each day – Arriving at school on time helps students begin testing calmly and confidently without missing important instructions.
-
Get plenty of sleep – A good night’s rest helps students stay focused and do their best.
-
Eat a healthy breakfast – Starting the day with a nutritious meal gives students the energy they need to think clearly and stay engaged.
We also encourage you to remind your child to stay positive, take their time, and show what they know. Confidence and effort go a long way!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we will help our students finish the year strong and continue their journey toward college and career readiness.

We are honored to celebrate the continued improvement in student attendance across our school community! Miramonte Elementary has the best attendance rate in the Mountain View School District as we creep closer to our goal of 98% daily attendance! Recently, we celebrated the classes with the highest attendance for the months. Congratulations to Ms. Seiji, Ms. Dang, Mr. Echegoyen and Ms. Rivas. Students love cleebrating with pizza for the class. Winning tastes so good! Consistent attendance helps students stay connected with their peers and supports academic success. Parents, please continue to support your students so they don’t miss out on valuable learning and connections!

We are incredibly proud of the commitment shown by our students who were recognized for their strong attendance at our PBIS assemblies and second trimester awards ceremony. Their dedication to coming to school each day reflects responsibility, perseverance, and a positive attitude toward learning. At Miramonte, we value attendance as a key part of student success and will continue to celebrate those who make it a priority. Awards were given to students who earned 97% attendance or better. Thank you to our families for your continued support in ensuring students are at school each day and ready to learn.

At Miramonte, we believe strong relationships are the foundation of student success. Through our commitment to Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH), we create a school environment where every student feels seen, valued, and connected.
We start by greeting students at the door, using names, eye contact, and a positive tone to set the stage for learning. In classrooms, social contracts help establish clear expectations and build a sense of shared responsibility. We also prioritize restorative circles and social-emotional learning, giving students opportunities to build trust, share their voices, and strengthen connections.
At Miramonte, connection is at the heart of everything we do. When students feel connected, they are more engaged, confident, and ready to succeed.
|
At the heart of PBIS is the belief that clear expectations, consistent routines, and positive recognition help students thrive. Throughout our campus, students learn what it means to be respectful, responsible, and safe in different settings such as classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds. Staff members model these expectations and provide regular encouragement and acknowledgment when students demonstrate them.
To celebrate positive behavior, students have opportunities to earn fun rewards and incentives. These may include recognition tickets, small prizes, special privileges, and exciting school-wide celebrations like the Glow Party! These events help build school spirit while reinforcing the importance of making positive choices every day.
Families play an important role in supporting PBIS. You can help by talking with your child about school expectations, celebrating their positive choices, and reinforcing similar values at home. When students experience consistency between school and home, it strengthens their confidence and decision-making skills.
We are excited about the positive impact PBIS continues to have on our school community. Together, we can create an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and ready to learn.

Career day is a fun and interactive career event where TK-3rd and SDC students will explore different jobs that involve using a vehicle in their daily work. Students will get the chance to see a variety of vehicles up close and learn about the people who operate them, helping them discover how these careers serve the community.
|
Mental Health Week is a time to help students learn about taking care of their emotions and well-being. Throughout this week, students will participate in fun activities during lunchtime with the school counselor that focus on coping skills, self-care, mindfulness, and expressing feelings in healthy ways. These activities support students in building resilience, managing stress, and understanding the importance of caring for their mental health at school and beyond.
|
Camp Wellness is a fun SEL family event where students and their families come together to learn social-emotional skills that help build friendships and manage emotions. Students will participate in a variety of engaging activities such as rock painting, breathing exercises, yoga, journaling, and more, all designed to promote well-being and connection
|
To celebrate our promoting 6th grade class, students in grades TK–5 will line the campus to create a festive “clap-out” tunnel. With pom-poms, noisemakers, and encouraging posters, our younger students will cheer on the 6th graders as they walk through, sending them off with excitement, school spirit, and heartfelt support as they take their next big step.

Our Miramonte families had a wonderful time at our Family Field Trip to Tanaka Farms on Saturday, April 18! About 40 students and family members joined us for a fun, engaging, and educational day together. Families had the opportunity to walk through the fields and pick fresh strawberries, which was a highlight for many of our students. We also visited the farm animals, including goats, cows, and chickens, where students were excited to observe and learn more about them up close.
In addition to the hands-on experiences, families learned about the growing process—from planting and caring for crops to harvesting—and gained a deeper understanding of where our food comes from. It was a meaningful opportunity to connect real-world learning to what students experience in the classroom.
Most importantly, the trip brought our school community together. It was great to see students and families spending quality time outdoors, building connections, and creating lasting memories. A big thank you to Ms. Zuleyma, our Community Liaison, for organizing such a well-planned and memorable experience for our Miramonte community!

At Think Together, students are engaged in collaborative, hands-on learning experiences. Recently, they explored lessons about crops—how they are grown, their uses, and their importance to our food system—bringing real-world connections into their learning.
Over the past few months, students have also participated in UFLI during Academic Achievement Hour. This targeted support has strengthened literacy skills and reinforced the learning happening during the school day, creating strong alignment across programs.
Students continue to enjoy participating in Soccer for Success, where they stay active while building teamwork, confidence, and sportsmanship in a positive and supportive environment.
On non-instructional days, students take part in cooking lessons, which have become a favorite activity. These sessions offer a fun, hands-on way for students to practice following directions while developing important life skills.
|
Our Windtree programs have been a huge success. Students have been fully engaged in hands-on learning experiences, exploring everything from engineering and robotics to creative design and problem-solving.
Classrooms have been filled with excitement as students collaborate, build, and think critically—truly bringing learning to life. It’s been amazing to see their creativity, teamwork, and confidence grow with each session.
|
We’re excited to highlight our partnership with HFA (Home Field Advantage), bringing soccer and tennis opportunities to our students! These programs are a fantastic way for students to stay active, build skills, and learn the value of teamwork and perseverance.
|
Our Parks and Recreation Department has been full of energy and excitement! Students have been actively participating in cheerleading, volleyball, and swim classes—building skills, staying active, and having a great time with friends. It’s been wonderful to see so many students engaged, trying new activities, and growing both on and off the field
|
Students put their skills to the test by creating delicious dishes inspired by a popular chicken sandwich—but with a healthy twist! From learning safe food prep to exploring new ingredients, our students are building confidence in the kitchen while making nutritious choices.
We love seeing our young chefs learn, create, and enjoy every bite. Who knows… we may have some future chefs in the making!
